A neural network walks into a lab: towards using deep nets as models for human behavior

Comments

Wei Ji Ma: Is there value in making DNNs into models of human cognition? If so, how to do it well? Count me a skeptic, but after this collaboration with @pebenjamters, I'm less skeptical. Still, this paper is a compendium of hard issues, not a glorification of DNNs. https://arxiv.org/pdf/2005.02181.pdf

Judy Fan: Insightful commentary — how cognitive scientists can profitably leverage DNNs to model human cognition and behavior ("beyond accuracy!") & how such models - capable of handling complex inputs + producing complex outputs - can push cognitive science to embrace more complex tasks!

Hrag Pailian: Overview (critiques, prescriptions, etc) of how neural networks can be leveraged to inform models of human cognition and behavior. Read this, especially if you’re quick to dismiss the value of DNN’s in psychological research.
